Probable remains of boundary marker between Whitby and Hawsker parishes in the wall adjoining Abbey Terrace East halfway up Church Lane.
This is the closest match to the boundary marker shown on the 1891 OS map. It is the correct location, and the block is anomolous for the wall. It looks like it used to be larger, protruding outwards as indicated on the OS map. There is also a triangular outline remaining that can be just made out, which would be consistant with a pyramid-style boundary stone.
Condition in 2017: considerably damaged, no writing remaining.
